May's book(s), discussion, and activities are for all grade levels.

May book selection is the participants' choice ofEITHERany book from the 2011 YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults List
ORany 3 books from the Young Readers List from the2011 ALSC Notable Books for Children List
If you choose to read 3 books from the Young Readers you need to create lesson plans for all 3 books.
OR
any book from the Middle Readers List from the 2011 ALSC Notable Books for Children List
ORany book from the Older Readers List also from the2011 ALSC Notable Books for Children List
Participants will be expected to:
  • Read the assigned book(s) for the month.
  • Respond to the discussion questions.
  • Respond to other participants answers in a separate post for any 3 discussion questions.
  • Create a lesson/unit using the book.
  • Meet together for 1 hour to further discuss the book and share lessons/units.

Discussions and lesson plans need to be posted by 9:00 PM Sunday, May 20
We will meet to discuss the books on Monday, May 21 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the Timken Library. Please enter the Timken Commons from the 4th St. parking lot at Door 2. The Library is on the second floor up the big, blue staircase.

Discussion Board and Questions:
Since there are both fiction and nonfiction books on the ALSC lists...there may be different Discussion Questions for Fiction books and Nonfiction books depending on what participants choose to read. The 3 Discussion Questions for fiction books are posted below. And now (May 2, 2012 8:21 AM) the 2 Discussion Questions for nonfiction books are posted. To fulfull the requirment to "Respond to other participants answers in a separate post" ... you can choose any 3 Discussion Questions from the fiction questions and nonfiction questions.



Lesson plan instructions:
  1. Save your lesson plan as a word document.
  2. Name your lesson plan the title of the book - your name (Example: Scars-Mindy)
  3. Email your lesson to engler_m@ccsdistrict.org
